National Survey of Third Sector Organisations published

The National Survey of Third Sector Organisations, in which nearly 50,000 charities, social enterprises and voluntary organisations took part, has now been published. The main focus of the survey was to establish which factors have the most impact on the degree of influence that third sector organisations perceive local statutory bodies to have on their success. The Office of the Third Sector wanted to establish local scores for National Indicator 7: Environment for a thriving third sector, as set out in the new local government performance framework.

The survey found that the ability to influence local decisions was the most important driver of the degree to which third sector organisations perceive local statutory bodies to influence their success. Those third sector organisations which have current dealings with local statutory bodies were much more likely to experience a positive impact on their success.

Each local authority area will be expected to demonstrate a measurable change in performance against NI7 between this survey and the next one, to be conducted in 2010.
